Jasmin by Guerlain is the purest Jasmine soliflore as I have ever smelled. Jasmin smells more like the work of Mandy Aftel than Guerlain in any of its incarnations. It smells stranger and more animalic and closer to the natural source material than any other scent inspired by that most exquisite of perfumery flowers. With a sandpaper whisper, there's a dry palm leaf followed by a funky undertone; the smell of a bird body underneath its feathers. Guerlain's Jasmin, a discontinued treasure from 1928, is banana scented with the semisoft cushiony texture of those orange marshmallow peanuts that make you throw up your hands in puzzlement. A hint of nostalgia hits with the starry night in the bungalow laundry room smell of mildewed Mary Jane and Sniffles comic books.Thank you to March who gave me a sample of this discontinued Guerlain Jasmin. The images above are as follows: a Georgia O'Keefe painting, The Lawrence Tree, that depicts the sort of setting in which I first smelled jasmine, and a frame from a Mary Jane and Sniffles Comic book.

this post is a great combination of the visual with your written description of a scent quality...
Well, Caitie-
I'm stumped !
Want to be alongside you now, though, sniffing that bird body [?!] voraciously...
Hmmmm....
So you liked it! Bird body and all ... I loved how indolic it is, when it sneaks in quietly.
Dear Lucy,
Thanks! Have you smelled this one?
Dear Chaya,
I know it's a weird comparison but bird bodies do have that particularly funky smell and I smelled it in Jasmin. I saw a bottle of this stuff had been on *bay recently. It's possible to locate.
Dear March,
I liked it, too. It really smelled like Jasmine to me. Did you find it faded quickly? just curious if that was a product of its age or if it was because I can't even smell my jasminoholic self any more.
Wow, no. It was really tenacious on me -- I got a full day out of a few dabs. In fact, I've been afraid to decant it into an atomizer for fear of gassing myself... but, in general, assuming I can smell them at the get-go, scents tend to really cling to my skin. Longevity is not usually an issue for me. I have wondered whether it's because they cling to the oils I use on my dry, dry skin...
This one is a wonder, just adore it. So maybe they'll bring this one back one day? Wishful thinking.
